New research from yStats.com, based in Germany, reveals five predictions for B2C E-Commerce sales in Japan. Based on information from several reliable sources, the report “Japan B2C E-Commerce Sales Forecasts: 2016 to 2020” concludes that online retail sales in Japan will grow at small double-digit growth rates over the forecast period.

As of 2016, Japan is the fourth largest B2C E-Commerce market worldwide, according to the findings of the new report from yStats.com. More than one quarter of all households in Japan make purchases online, buying popular product categories such as clothing, appliances, groceries and furniture. The two largest online retail platforms in the country by 2015 market shares were Rakuten and Amazon.

Five different predictions are cited in the yStats.com report regarding the future of online retail sales in this country. In 2016, a growth rate of slightly above 10% is expected. Through 2020, this rate is projected to moderate. M-Commerce is seen as one of the growth drivers, expected to account for around half of all B2C E-Commerce sales in a five years’ time. Another forecast cited in the report suggests that cross-border online sales to Japan could rise significantly, driven by online imports from countries such as the USA and China.
